You can be a dagger-wielding, backstabbing rogue, a sword-and-board warrior, a pure mage, an archer, or some combination of them all.Īs for the types of spells you can expect to see, Obsidian is wisely drawing inspiration from its work with Pillars of Eternity 1 and 2. That means dual wieldable spells and weapons (we saw a bit of this in the CG trailer), and the ability to shape your playstyle as you go. In addition to seeing actual gameplay, reporter Jez Corden learned some juicy details about a few of Avowed's core gameplay systems.Īpparently, the game will feature "multiple class playstyles," and a Skyrim-like fluid class system.

AVOWED GAMEPLAY WINDOWS
That's still the case to an extent, but the folks over at Windows Central reportedly snagged an early look at the game thanks to their sources (presumably some anonymous Obsidian devs).
AVOWED GAMEPLAY SERIES
We saw a single CG trailer in July of last year, and we were told that it would take place in the same world as Obsidian's Pillars of Eternity series – Eora – but that's about it. Until now, we really haven't heard much about Avowed. If newly-revealed gameplay rumors are anything to go by, the team might just have a chance at the crown.
AVOWED GAMEPLAY CRACK
Obsidian challenged Bethesda's dominance with the release of The Outer Worlds in 2019, and it seems keen to do so again with the upcoming Avowed: its first crack at a medieval, first-person fantasy RPG. While The Outer Worlds was made available on both PlayStation and Xbox, this sadly won’t be the case for Avowed due to Microsoft’s acquisition.Highly anticipated: Bethesda has long been the dominant player in the first-person RPG genre thanks to titles like Skyrim, Morrowind, and Fallout 4 but no king rules forever. In 2018, Microsoft acquired Obsidian Entertainment, so unfortunately for PS users, Avowed will be an Xbox exclusive.
AVOWED GAMEPLAY PS4
The Xbox One isn’t listed as an available platform for Avowed, so it’s safe to assume the game won’t be cross-generation.Īs for whether the game will be available on the PS5 and PS4 or not, we can look at its developer for a good guess.

It’ll also be available on Xbox Game Pass, like other first-party Microsoft games. Gamers may see it released later this year, but it’s more likely Avowed will be launched in 2023 or 2024.Īvowed will be released on Xbox Series X & S and PC. With these clues, it’s possible that Avowed is a medieval prequel to Pillars of Eternity.Īvowed has no release date and is probably still under development. The sword from the game’s trailer is also covered in Aeryn runes. Woedica’s story aligns with a narrative based on confronting a destiny filled with broken oaths, fallen empires, and royalty, which seems to be Avowed’s theme. Woedica is also a faith held by the Aedyr Empire, a nation in Eora, which could be where Avowed takes place. Players may have to question and confront their fate while also rebuilding an empire left in ruins, with possible links to royalty.Ī flag in the trailer implies a link to Woedica, a deity called the “Oathbinder”, who was killed by other gods because she was too powerful. Monsters born of the sins of the fallen empire roam the lands. The trailer for Avowed showcases various medieval landscapes, including a wartorn castle. This game is in league with other awesome Obsidian RPGs, like Knights of the Old Republic 2: The Sith Lords. Hints at the gameplay suggest combat with both third and first-person animations, branching dialogue, and day-to-night cycles. Players will use rune-based magic powers and sword combat, which was previewed in the game’s teaser.Īvowed is set in Eora, which is the setting of Pillars of Eternity. The major takeaway from the Avowed trailer is that it will be a first-person RPG similar to Skyrim. Unfortunately for PlayStation users, the release outlook looks grim, as Obsidian Entertainment falls under Microsoft’s large umbrella. With the excitement for Avowed growing, players want to know which platforms the game will be launched on. Many are referring to Avowed as Obsidian’s take on Skyrim, which has fans super hyped. It was first revealed at the Xbox Games Showcase in July 2020, but will it also be coming to PS5 and PS4?Īvowed takes place in the same universe as Obsidian’s Pillars of Eternity. Avowed is an upcoming first-person RPG being developed by Obsidian Entertainment, the studio that developed Fallout: New Vegas and The Outer Worlds.
