That is from 32 GPs, so while his time will come, he isn’t consistent enough to really be considered anywhere near being the favourite in 2022. Prado though hasn’t been anywhere near as consistent as Gajser and from his two seasons in MXGP has four GP wins, eight race wins and 13 podiums. How can you not love this kids’ determination and brilliant technique? Just beautiful to watch and we all know, when he arrives, Gajser and Herlings might struggle.

Jorge Prado - Second Place: Of course, while Gajser is the favourite for not only Matterley, but also the 2022 MXGP championship, we all await the complete arrival of the Spanish kid, Jorge Prado. I just can’t go past Gajser as the victor at Matterley Basin this weekend. The guy is by far the most consistent rider in the last seven years and anyone who can’t see this just isn’t watching close enough. Considering Gajser has two years of injury in 20, those stats could be even better. I remember one young media fella mentioning in 2021 how Gajser is finally consistent, and I seriously laughed out loud and fell off my stool. All the more impressive are those 73 podiums, when they come from just 108 MXGP rounds. Tim Gajser - First Place: Looking at the MXGP statistics for Gajser, with his 28 GP wins, 79 race wins, 73 podiums and average of 38 points a GP, these stats are impressive. Jed Beaton, Brian Bogers, Ruben Fernandez, Ben Watson, Mathys Boisrame, and Alessandro Lupino and Mitch Evans all have a shot at the top ten. Jeremy Seewer and his Yamaha team-mates all look very strong, and there are a number of other riders fighting for a top ten place.

There can be no denying it, and of course, 21-year-old Jorge Prado is a year old and wiser, so he could very easily add a new dimension and there is every reason to pick him as a winner in England. Of course, we can all try and be smart and select a surprise winner, but at the end of the day, when it comes to previous results at this circuit and in championships battle since 2015, 25-year-old Tim Gajser is the man amongst this field of riders this weekend.

Not risking anything and going on previous results in 2021 and the vibe moving into 2022. This one is my top three at Matterley Basin. Maybe a little different each time, but a week later than the last one and of course, with the riders just returning to their preparation since last weekend wash-out, our opinion hasn’t changed at all with who wins round one at Matterley Basin. I know we have done a British GP preview, maybe even more than one, but here we go again.
